The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien is a late-night talk show that aired on NBC. It is the third show under the title The Tonight Show, and by far the shortest-lived at only seven months.
The show began as a successor to The Tonight Show with Jay Leno at which time Jay Leno had a new primetime show, The Jay Leno Show. However, after seven months, NBC wanted to move The Jay Leno Show out of primetime, where it received low ratings, causing NBC affiliates to lose ratings on their late night newscasts. It was initially announced that The Jay Leno Show would be moved to 11:35 p.m., pushing O'Brien's Tonight Show to 12:05 a.m. and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to 1:05 a.m. However, O'Brien didn't agree with this, and ended up leaving the show. Jay Leno then moved back to The Tonight Show.
