The Pirates of Dark Water was an animated fantasy that first aired as Dark Water in a five-episode arc on Fox Kids. It ran on ABC in the fall of 1991 and then in first-run syndication on The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera.
The series followed the adventures of a team of travelers who sought the Thirteen Treasures Of Rule, which when collected combines into a power that could stop an evil substance, "Dark Water," from consuming the world of Mer.
The show was Hanna-Barbera's most expensive series, running roughly $600,000 per half-hour. The series was never completed due to the show's high costs and deadline issues.
