Plot Overview

Michael takes a personal day from work in order to sign the papers on his new condo, only it's not a personal day because he "needs a living arrangement in order to do work!" After some begging, Dwight gets to come along as his "representative". While Michael's away, everyone at Dunder Mifflin is working on their expense reports, until Jim notices the games his co-workers play at their desks when bored. He organizes the "Dunder Mifflin Olympiad" so they can play together.

At the condo, Michael is ready to sign the papers on his 10-year mortgage, until the realtor reminds him that it is, in fact, a 30-year mortgage. After some hyperventilating, Michael signs anyway rather than lose his $7000 deposit. Back at the office, the crew (except for Angela) enjoys games like M&M face-stuffing, Horse and "flunkerton." Michael walks in on the coffee-cup races, but he's so glum he barely notices the excitement. Jim lures Michael out of his office for an awards presentation, where Michael and Dwight get gold and silver medals (made from Pam's yogurt lids), and Michael is moved almost to tears by the gesture.

Quotes

  • (Jim has discovered the paper football game that Oscar and Kevin play at their desks.)
Jim: I really love the paper-triangle-flicking-and-hitting-things game.
Kevin: We call it "hateball."
Jim: Why?
Kevin: Because of how much Angela hates it.
Jim: Hey, do you guys have any other games?
Kevin: Sometimes we play "who can put the most M&Ms in their mouth."
Angela: You play that.
  • (Pam and Angela are observing the "Office Olympics".)
Pam: C'mon Angela, don't you have a game?
Angela: I have one, yes.
Pam: Well, let's play. What is it?
Angela: I call it "Pam Pong." I count how many times Jim gets up from his desk and goes to reception to talk to you.
Pam: (pause) We're friends.
Angela: Apparently.
  • (Dwight has revealed that he owns a beet farm.)
Michael: Yeah, well, you know what? Nobody cares about your stupid beet farm. Beets are the worst.
Dwight: People love beets.
Michael: Nobody likes beets.
Dwight: Everyone loves beets.
Michael: NOBODY likes beets, Dwight! Why don't you grow something that everybody does like? You should grow candy... (sigh) I'd love a piece of candy right now. Not a beet.
  • (Michael is sulking after signing a mortgage.)
Jim: I just wanna congratulate you on your condo.
Michael: Oh. Thanks, thanks, it's very cool. It's a three bedroom, gay-friendly...
  • (Pam presses play on an iPod and the Star Spangled Banner plays.)
Michael: Why are you playing the national anthem?
Jim: Um, 'cause your condo's in America.
Michael: Oh.
