Plot Overview

Dee, following her successful marking of a creature with a GPS tracker, begins to follow the course of it's movement. She intends to compile information both to exonerate herself as well as to gather some fame and permanence in the scientific community.

Desperate to make sense of his obsessive dreams, Rich meets up with Dee and she shares her collected data with him. While there, they notice that the creature has taken a unique path that will bring it very close to land. Seizing the opportunity to capture visual record of the creature, they head to the shore. Rich confesses a bit of his strange dreams and obsessive nature and puts Dee a bit on edge.

The duo track the creature to a pier in Sausalito, CA and are able to see and capture on video the creature's hump and wake. They follow it further inland as the creature gathers more attention. The coast guard attempts to discourage the creature, which they think is a whale, from heading inland but the creature lets off an electronic pulse that shorts out all electronics for 2km and erases the photographic evidence.

The government, able to monitor the information Dee is collecting using the Carnivore network sniffer, intercedes at the pier. Rich is arrested while Dee is taken aside by Dr. Cirko. Impressed by her tenacity and resourcefulness, as well as urged by government officials to keep her close and control the release of information, Dr. Cirko offers Dee an opportunity to join his team.

In the aftermath of the poodle snacking incident, Miles fends off an animal control officer from finding Nim in his pool. Phil has already moved Nim to the back of an SUV, which Miles' mom takes to the supermarket. Miles and Nim follow her and attempt to recapture Nim, who causes havoc and injures himself by setting off an electric nailgun. Miles and Phil are detained by the supermarket staff and Nim escapes. Thinking Nimrod is lost for good and receiving a stern lecture from his mom on lying to her and his lack of direction, Miles grows depressed. However, Nim finds his way home on his own.

Notes

  • So consumed with gathering evidence, Dee nearly forgets her son while racing to the shoreline.
  • Rich's wife is less than pleased to know that he left to meet up with Dee.
  • Dr. Cirko makes an ultimatum to Lee that if anything happens to Laura he will quit.

  • Before emitting an electrical pulse, the large creature gave off a piercing sound. The blackout is blamed on a whale bumping into an underground power cable.
  • One of the crew of the Topeka, which was found abandoned in the pilot episode, washes ashore naked in Madagascar. He may have strange physical scarring on his back and neck.
