Music
- "Is You Is or Is You Ain't My Baby" by Louis Jordan: The song that Tim and Daisy dance to at the end of the episode is "Is You Is or Is You Ain't My Baby," originally by Louis Jordan. The song reached the top of the charts when it was released on a single with "G.I. Jive" in 1944 and has since become something of a jazz standard. The band playing the song in this episode, The J.B. Quartet, is actually fronted by Simon Pegg's father, John Henry Beckingham, who is a jazz keyboardist and singer (as demonstrated in the song).

Allusions and References
- Akira: Akira is a Japanese cyberpunk animated film based on the manga series of the same name by Katsuhiro Otomo. The film is set in post-apocalyptic Tokyo in the year 2019 and is considered to be one of the greatest animated features of all time by critics. It helped pave the way for western appreciation of anime because of its story and its animation quality.
- Daisy: I thought you were going to take me to the ICA to see Akira.
- Andy McNab: In Mike's internal narration, he tries to build himself up before the board, repeatedly stating that he's Andy McNab. Andy McNab is the pseudonym for a former British soldier turned novelist, who typically writes about his experiences in the SAS and "fast action thrillers" in the style of Tom Clancy.
- Mike (internally): I'm Andy McNab. I'm Andy McNab. I'm Andy McNab.
- Andie MacDowell: Mike slips up his internal narration in a moment of nervousness and states that he's Andie MacDowell. MacDowell is a screen actress who has starred in Groundhog Day, Four Weddings and a Funeral and Short Cuts among other films. She is most certainly not a former soldier in the SAS.
- Mike (internally): ...I'm Andie MacDowell.
- Tekken 2: The game the Daisy is playing in the flat, which is later used as an allegory to their argument, is Tekken 2, the second in the fighting game series released in 1996 on Playstation. The characters being used are Nina Williams (Daisy's character), an Irish assassin, and Paul Phoenix (Tim's character), an American judo master. The two, incidentally, are two of the four characters to appear in every edition of the game.
