They're furry, they're funny, they're housebroken!
Spacecats was an irreverent Saturday morning cartoon airing on NBC. It was created by Paul Fusco, creator of ALF.
Each episode began live on the planet Triglyceride-7 where extra-terrestrial cats (all puppets) monitor earth for any sign of trouble. Their leader, Captain Catgut, receives an assignment from their figurehead, the Disembodied Omnipotent Ruler of Cats (D.O.R.C. for short). Captain Catgut parcels out the toughest assignment to his crack squadron of crimefighters, Tom, Scratch and Sniff.
This was one of NBC's last mainstream cartoon shows before jettisoning them all in favor of a Saturday edition of The Today Show and a block of live action teen shows the following August. This was predicated on a growing practice of network affiliates blacking out blocks of Saturday morning shows in favor of local news.
