The Art Dealers are a pair of eccentric Europeans who live in a bizarre house filled with furniture, architecture and food which is said to be on the cutting edge of fashion, but is actually just impractical. Nüni (the man) and Nuni (the woman) Schoener are played by Fred Armisen and Maya Rudolph with frequent appearances by Chris Parnell as Tato.

Basic Information

In the typical art dealers sketch, one or two average people are brought into the Schoeners' home and are immediately faced with a barrier in pronouncing the couple's names. They, similarly, have difficulty pronouncing their guest's simple names (like "Pam" or "Steven"). Following this exchange, the guests are invited to sit on unusual and often uncomfortable furniture as well as eat unappetizing food. At the end of the sketch, the guest finds some way to escape from the house, usually by making up an excuse or insisting that they've been there as long as they need to.

The overall core of the sketch changes very little between occurrences, but there is some differentiation with the secondary characters. Tato appeared in the first four sketches in varying maid-like roles, but his presence has occasionally be supplemented by that of the couple's son ("Noony," played by Will Ferrell) and daughter ("Nunni," played by Natalie Portman). Since Parnell's departure from the series, the hole he left in the sketch may have been filled by Andy Samberg as Little Joe, although it has yet to be seen as to if he will be a recurring part of the sketch.
