Jimmy Palmer, a somewhat awkward young assistant medical examiner, took over the position of Ducky's assistant after Gerald Jackson was shot by the terrorist Ari Haswari, forcing him to leave NCIS on a long medical leave of absence. Palmer serves as Ducky's assistant both in the morgue and out in the field, and is frequently nervous, but seems to be quite proficient at his job.
