Basic Information
Emily Cowles is an advice columnist at the Independent News Service in Chicago. Her desk is next to reporter Carl Kolchak's desk. They both work for Tony Vincenzo, their oft ill-tempered boss.
Emily is a kindly old lady who helps Kolchak from time to time (making phone calls, looking things up, etc.) just to spice up her life a bit, and because she's just a nice person.
Character History
Miss Eggenweiler, the nosey neighbor who saw the man with "x-ray eyes" in the episode The Ripper, was played by Ruth McDevitt, who would go on to take a regular role on the show as Miss Emily Cowles, the INS advice colmnist.
