KHOU is the call sign for the CBS affiliate in Houston, Texas. It broadcasts on digital 31, displayed on digital tuners through PSIP as virtual channel 11. Its subcarrier is 31.2, local programming, and a second subcarrier is scheduled to start up later this year with programming from the .2 Network, a general entertainment outlet for digital subcarriers.
Channel 11 analog signed on in 1953 as Galveston station KGUL, changing in 1959 as the current KHOU and moving to Houston proper. It has had CBS as its network from the start.
In 2005, KHOU furnished broadcasts facilities to sister station WWL-TV in New Orleans for coverage of Hurricane Katrina, as WWL was forced to the LSU campus and their own studios flooded. In 2008, KHOU went round-the-clock with coverage of Hurricane Ike, which battered the Texas coast. KHOU's coverage was shown nationwide by DirecTV on channel 361.
