Mohinder Suresh travels to New York after his father's death and takes a job at the Chelsea Cab Company.

Mohinder Suresh talks about the stories his grandmother told him when he was young, about the goddess Kali. The stories say that if you are devoted to Kali, she will excort you into the afterlife. Mohinder imagines that because his father was not a religious man, Kali followed him to America, to ensure he does not enter the afterlife.
Mohinder then goes to the taxi company that employed his father and looks at the cab he was driving when he died. It looks like it was nearly ripped in half. Mohinder realizes that this wasn't an accident, as the cab company claims, but that "it was one of them." He knows that he must find thatm, and follow in his father's footsteps. He is offered a job with the taxi company, and he accepts, while Horned-Rimmed Glasses Man takes pictures of him without his knowledge.
