Eden McCain is shown as a young girl. She was a very quiet girl who tried to avoid the constant arguments between her father and step-mother. One night, her father leaves, and never returns. Eden's step-mother blames her for his leaving, and forces her to do chores and work around the house to "earn her keep."

Eden grows up and, during a verbal abuse session by her step-mother, says "I wish you'd just die!" He mother does just that. Her heart stopped the instant Eden said her command and she falls over dead. Her cigarette falls to the floor and sets the house on fire. Eden decides to abandon her old life and her old, unknown name, adopting the name Eden. She charms a man driving a car, saying "Just take me away from here." He does exactly that, asking where she wants to go.
