Plot Overview

Has the world turned upside down? Paris zones out in class, daydreaming about her new boyfriend. And Emily takes Lorelai's advice about how to coexist with a difficult woman: Richard's imperious mother.

In class Paris is very distracted and misses the whole class. She decides to cancel the extra student cancel meeting and then tells Rory about her wonderful Christmas break with Jamie's family.

Dean drops by and saves Lorelai from a really big spider. He gives Rory a box of things she loaned him before leaving.

Lorelai tries to buy a present for her father's upcoming birthday party.

Rory and Dean bump into each other on the street and Dean asks her out to coffee. They have a nice chat about things going on in their lives. Dean is applying to universities.

The extra student council meeting is unexpectedly reinstated without letting Paris know. Rory tries to cancel it, but the teacher makes her go ahead as everyone is already there.

At Richard's birthday evening, his mother shows up unexpectedly, and decides she wants to see the place where Lorelai works, and her home in Stars Hollow.

Rory and Jess go out walking. Rory wants Jess to go to the Stars Hollow High Winter Carnival but he won't go. When they are walking on the way to the carnival they meet Dean and Clara, Dean's younger sister and Jess decides he wants to go to the carnival after all.

Lorelai takes Emily, Richard and Trix to the Independence Inn for dinner. Trix sends specific instructions for the speed of the meal to the kitchen, and when it starts to arrive, Emily begins to eat very slowly.
