Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) had a baby and ran away from home at 16. She raised her daughter on her own. Now in her mid thirties she maintains a tumultuous relationship with her parents, Richard (Edward Hermann) and Emily (Kelly Bishop) Gilmore and a close friendship with her daugher Rory (Alexis Bledel).

Basic Information
She has a quick wit, a love of movies, TV and junk food. She ate apples when she was pregnant with Rory, but rarely at any other time. She taught herself how to sew sometime after leaving her parents' house and before the start of the series.
Character History
Lorelai is the only child of a wealthy family. At sixteen, she ran away with her daughter and found a job working at the Independence Inn in Stars Hollow as a chambermaid. Since then she has raised her daughter, worked her way up to manager of the Independence Inn and then to owning her own successful inn in partnership with her friend Sookie St. James (Melissa McCarthy).
