Special Features
- Here's How It Was: The Making of Firefly: This 30 minute featurette explains the ideas behind Firefly and what the cast and crew thought of creating the series. It cuts between interviews, footage of filming and footage of actual scenes from the show. It also explains some of the complications with the network and what sacrifices they made in order to work with FOX.
- Serenity: The 10th Character: The 10 minute Serenity featurette explains the design of Serenity, the ship. Joss takes the viewer through the set designs (and color schemes) of the ship and how important the ship is as a character of its own.
- Joss Tours the Set: Joss Whedon takes a very brief tour of the set and shows how the ship is brought together from a filming angle. He also explains, also briefly, the idea behind the show. This featurette is only about a minute long.
- Alan Tudyk's Audition: This is a short audition take of Alan's first impression on the introduction of Wash in the pilot episode (where he's playing with the dinosaurs).
- Joss Singing the "Firefly" Theme: Exactly how it sounds. The preliminary version of the theme song to the series, "Ballad of Serenity," played by Joss Whedon on an acoustic guitar is played over the opening credits.
Easter Eggs
- Disc 4: In the Special Features menu, select the next page and highlight "Joss Sings the Firefly Theme." Press left and the symbol next to the picture should light up. Press enter to see Adam Baldwin sing "Hero of Canton."
Alterations
- Episodes are presented in the intended airing order rather than the order that Fox ran them in.
- A scene in "Objects in Space" was removed by Joss Whedon. The removed scene contained exposition necessary in the broadcast version because "Heart Of Gold" had not been aired previously to "Objects in Space" as intended. This scene appears in the deleted scenes.
