The E. W. Scripps Company was founded in 1878. At the time it was known as the Cleveland Penny Press. The company was founded by Edward W. Scripps and has since grown to be one of the biggest media and entertainment corporations in the country. The E. W. Scripps Company owns many television assets including studios, networks and production companies. The E. W. Scripps Company currently sponsors a national spelling bee called theScripps National Spelling Bee. The spelling bee is considered one of the hardest and is currently is shown on ESPN. The E. W. Scripps Company is based in Cincinnati,Ohio.
