Charlie Jade (2005) is a science fiction drama created and Exec Produced by Chris Roland of ZenHQ (formerly The Imaginarium) and Robert Wertheimer of Jonsworth Productions, and is a co-production between The Imaginarium, Cinegroupe and Jonsworth Productions. The series is set in Cape Town, South Africa in three parallel universes named Alpha, Beta, and Gamma; or sometimes Alphaverse, Betaverse, and Gammaverse. The story revolves around Charlie Jade, a private investigator from Alpha, and Vexcor, a massive Alpha corporation which has developed a "Link" between the three universes.
Besides subtitles at the start of scenes, visual filters are used to indicate which universe the scene takes place in. Alpha is dark and green, much like in The Matrix, Beta is slightly desaturated and blue, and Gamma is supersaturated. These help reinforce their characters, Alpha is polluted and technologically advanced, Beta is "the real world", and Gamma is a ecologically pristine utopia.
