WJXT is the call sign for an independent station in Jacksonville, Florida. It broadcasts on digital channel 42, displayed on tuners as virtual channel 4.
Channel 4 analog signed on in 1949 as CBS affiliate WMBR and had secondary affiliations with NBC, ABC and Dumont. After being bought by the Washington Post, the station's call changed to WJXT. It served much of the Georgia coast and Florida peninsula. In 2002, WJXT came to loggerheads with CBS about affiliate carry fees and terminated their affiliation. WJXT became an independent station, with CBS moving to WTEV/channel 47 (at the time a UPN affiliate--UPN would move to Fox affiliate WAWS/channel 30 under secondary affiliation). WJXT shored up their newscasts and made it more prolific.
