Viacom is one of the worlds largest media and entertainment corporations, only behind The Walt Disney Company, Time Warner and News Corporation.
History
The current Viacom was created on December 31, 2005, when it was spun off from the "original" Viacom, now known as CBS Corporation. While the CBS network and Showtime remained part of CBS Corporation, most other Viacom networks were brought over to the "new" Viacom, alongside Paramount Pictures.
Today, the Viacom networks are managed through two company divisions, BET Networks and MTV Networks
Current television assets
Viacom's television assets are separated into two divisions:
- MTV Networks (acquired by the original Viacom in 1986).
- BET Networks (acquired by the original Viacom in 2003).
