Plot Overview
Sheriff Rick Grimes is critically wounded in the line of duty and fall into a coma. When he awakens, he finds that the dead have come back to life. Recovering, he sets forth to trek a virtually dead landscape in search of his wife and son.

- Actor Sam Witwer was cast as the dead soldier Rick finds in the tank, as Frank Darabont had intended to revisit the character in flashback for the Season 2 premiere. This never materialised due to the departure of Darabont.
