- One of the major differences with the character in the series and his graphic novel counterpart is that Rick is a central character in the graphic novels until the penultimate issue. Writing Rick out of the series came about because Lincoln wanted to spend more time with his children.
- Another difference is that in the graphic novels, Rick had his hand chopped off by the Governor. Kirkman admitted regretting this and is likely why the show's Rick never loses his.
