Notes
With this episode the opening intro is changed yet again again. From now on each episodes starts with a monologue by Blair Sandburg:
"In the jungles of Peru the fight for survival heightened his senses. Now, Detective James Ellison is a sentinel in the fight for justice. Seeing before others see. Sensing what others can't. An ever-vigilant watchman in the war against crime."

Characters
Jim
Jim sees his spirit animal, the black panther, for the first time. When searching for Simon and Daryl he loses his heightened senses again. Later he has a vision, where the panther morphs into a chopec indian, who tells him, that he has to decide if he wants to be a Sentinel or not.
Spirit Guide: "Your return to the jungle was no accident. This is the place you were reborn as a sentinel. You have been brought back to complete the circle."
Jim: "Why have my abilities been taken away?"
Spirit Guide: "To remind you of who you were. What you've experienced so far is just an initiation. Now is the time to make a choice. You can go back the way you came and be an ordinary man, or you can go forward, but to do so will require your life and your soul. Are you prepared to make such a journey?"
Jim: "I'm not sure."
The scene now shows Jim who stands at the edge of a really high cliff.
Jim: "I'm standing at the edge of a cliff. If I go forward, I'll die."
Spirit Guide: "Yes."
Jim: "Okay, I'm ready."
Blair
Blair is offered a position on the exkursion team of his professor and mentor Eli Stoddard. The trip would lead him to Borneo for more than a year, effectively ending or at least disrupting the Sentinel research. He has no chance to make a desision before they find out about Simon and Daryl's disappearance in Peru. Blair accompanies Jim anyway, even though the detective initially doesn't want him to come.
When they return to Cascade Blair tells Jim, that he has decided not to take Stoddard up on the offer, but not because of the Sentinel research:
"Well, actually, I've already decided not to go. This sentinel thing... You know, it's more than just a research project. Uh... it's about friendship. I just didn't get it before."
Simon
Simon's relationship with his teenage son Daryl is boosted quite a bit through this shared dangerous adventure.
