In the jungles of Peru, the fight for survival heightened his senses. Now, Detective Jim Ellison is a sentinel in the fight for justice.

A rugged police detective (Richard Burgi as Detective Jim Ellison) and a good-natured anthropology student (Garett Maggart as Blair Sandburg) become an improbable team when the well-respected detective develops a dramatically different advantage—his five senses are heightened wildly beyond that of an ordinary human being—and the hip, young grad student knows an extraordinary thesis subject when he sees one.

Working together in the "Major Crime" division of the fictional town of Cascade's police department, the two are supported by their Captain (Bruce A. Young as Captain Simon Banks) and colleagues Lt. Carolyn Plummer (Kelly Curtis), Captain Joel Taggert (Ken Earl), Detectives Brown (Henri Brown) and Rafe (Ryf Van Rij) and later Inspector Megan Connor (Anna Garvin).

In-Depth

The one-hour series combines broad-scale dramatic police action, formidable stunt work and cutting-edge special effects. But beneath all the action the show is about the developing friendship between the two main characters, who could not be more different in character and personality. The pairing of the hard-as-steel former military and covert ops police detective with the neo-hippie, free thinking son of a flowerchild-pacifist and scientist make for some witty dialogues as well as heartfelt emotional scenes. The two embark on a partner- and friendship unlike any other.

The friendship between the characters is what has gained the show a large, loyal and friendly fan community and made for an unbelievable amount of well-written fanfiction. It is a primary reason why the community still exists today.
