Plot Overview
A girl who claims to be the sister of an heiress who committed suicide hires Rockford to prove it was murder. He noses around the dead girl's place and eventually meets the real sister. His 'client' is actually a fellow P.I. who's playing Rockford to get two cops tailing her off her back, but when Jim discovers evidence that the dead woman's suicide was really murder, it incurs the wrath of Lt. Diel, who was in charge of the case and, as always, doesn't appreciate Rockford's snooping, and also from a thug with a high-powered rifle.
