Plot Overview
Beth, Jim's lawyer and one-time girlfriend, hires him to do investigating on behalf of her client, an indigent woman accused of killing her husband, a poet. Rockford goes to Arizona, where the couple lived previously, and discovers that they had crashed a high-society party celebrating the success of a film based on a book whose author allegedly died in a boating accident.
