The Heckle and Jeckle Cartoon Show was Saturday morning's second network cartoon show, airing on CBS (the first was Mighty Mouse Playhouse). The cartoons were originally produced by Terrytoons for theatrical release.

The series starred twin magpies--Heckle, who spoke with a Brooklyn slant, and Jeckle, who spoke in erudite British. The two birds were mischievous con artists and pranksters, usually playing off two dogs--Dimwit, a bloodhound, and a bulldog who was named Chesty in the Terrytoons-drawn comic book by St. John's publishing. The voices of Heckle and Jeckle noted below were of the host segments. In the cartoons, they were voiced by Syd Raymond, Roy Halee and Dayton Allen.

Three Heckle and Jeckle cartoons were screened with an additional cartoon starring some of the Terrytoons studio's other stars such as Little Roquefort, Dinky Duck and the Terry Bears. These cartoons previously appeared in prime time on CBS Cartoon Theater.

After airing one season, The Heckle and Jeckle Cartoon Show would be in limbo till 1965, when CBS brought it back for Saturday mornings. It aired that season with four cartoons produced from 1959 to 1961 added then returned in 1969 on NBC as an hour-long show. The NBC show featured a 1966 H&J cartoon, "Messed Up Movie Makers", plus some newer Terrytoons features not shown to that point. Those were Possible Possum, James Hound, and Sad Cat.

Heckle and Jeckle would be revived in 1979 by the Filmation Studio in The New Adventures of Mighty Mouse and Heckle & Jeckle. The two would be the focal characters of Curbside, a pilot produced by and for Nickelodeon in 1999. It did not sell.
