The Astronut Show was an animated comedy by the Terrytoons studio that aired in syndication. It was a spinoff of The Deputy Dawg Show as the character appeared in two episodes of that show.
Astronut returns to earth, this time capable of perfect verbal syntax, as he assists Oscar Mild, a nebbish. Elements of the show in the 1960s were Luno (about a flying horse and his young master), Silly Sidney (previously seen on The Hector Heathcote Show and Hashimoto (also seen on Heathcote).
Viacom acquired the Terrytoons library from CBS Films in 1970 and re-packaged the show with elements Sad Cat (a schlep feline assisted by a Fairy Godmouse), James Hound (a canine secret agent), and Possible Possum (a Deputy Dawg clone taking place in a southern swamp--the character Macon Mouse previously appeared on The Deputy Dawg Show as Russian-speaking Mischa Mouse). All three elements aired the season before on NBC on The Heckle And Jeckle Cartoon Show.
Of the feature elements, the following people created them: Art Barsch (Luno), Gene Deitch (Silly Sidney), Bob Kuwahara (Hashimoto), Ralph Bakshi (Sad Cat, James Hound), and Larz Bourne (Possible Possum).
