Notes

Comic Book Parallels

  • Doom Patrol: The history of the Doom Patrol is long and complicated. But it is reasonable to believe that the incantation of the Doom Patrol in the cartoon are from the original version which included The Chief, Elasti-Girl, Robotman and Negative Man. The team would later unofficially add Mento to the ranks. After Mento and Elasti-Girl were married, they adopted Beast Boy and he joined the team as well. Their adventures were bizarre and didn't sell very well. The series ended at issue #121 when they were killed off (except for Beast Boy and Robotman). The series was later resurrected into an even stranger state when Grant Morrisson took over the second series during the late 1980s. However, this version is unrelated to the animated Doom Patrol.
First Appearance: My Greatest Adventure #80, written by Arnold Drake and drawn by Bruno Premiani.
  • Brotherhood of Evil: The Brotherhood of Evil was a group of supervillains who primarily ran against the original Doom Patrol. Led by Brain, the original brotherhood's ranks included General Zahl, Madame Rouge, Monsieur Mallah and Garguax. The team was the source of some controversy due to the similarity between it and the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants (the X-Men villains), but it is maintained that any similarities are coincidental.
First Appearance: Doom Patrol v1 #86, written by Arnold Drake and drawn by Bruno Premiani.

Allusions and References

  • The Incredibles: While not referenced directly through dialogue, the jungle setting, robots with spinning weaponry and Doom Patrol theme music is clearly inspired by the Incredibles, a 2004 Pixar movie about a family of superheroes.
