Season One of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip premiered on September 18, 2006. While the series was well received by critics, it suffered disappointing ratings throughout its first six episodes. Although it was widely speculated by news outlets (including Fox News) that the series wouldn't make it through the entire season, the series was picked up for a full 22 episodes on November 9, 2006.

Ratings did not improve over time, however, and the show was pulled from the schedule in February for a long hiatus that ended in late May, after it was announced in the upfronts that the series would not be coming back for a second season.
