Basic Information

Dr. Zelenka is a brilliant scientist and engineer assigned to the Atlantis expedition. Second only to Dr. Rodney McKay in genius, he is often called upon to come up with solutions to the many difficult problems faced by the expedition.

Zelenka is a citizen of the Czech Republic and wears the Czech flag on the shoulder of his uniform. He is one of very few scientists on the Atlantis expedition that McKay respects, due in large part to the multiple times Zelenka has saved Rodney's life. Zelenka was key during the plan to save Major John Sheppard's team (including Rodney) when their Puddlejumper became lodged in an active Stargate, and later helped Dr. McKay come up with a plan to save Atlantis from a massive tidal wave by using Atlantis itself as a lightning collector to temporarily power the city's shield long enough for the wave to move past.

He has an averse reaction to children due to his nephew, but was sent to the children-populated planet M7G-677 to fix their EM field generator shortly before the Trust bomb scare on Atlantis. His opinion of children presumably wasn't helped much by that experience, since he came back exhausted and covered in paint.

Dr. Zelenka has become the main standout of a large diverse supporting cast and has appeared in more episodes than any other non-billed character.
