Major Evan Lorne first appeared during Season 7 of Stargate SG-1 as the executive officer of the naquadah dig site on P3X-403. He was later transferred to the Atlantis Expedition after the Daedalus made it possible to send reinforcements.

Major Lorne is currently second in command of the military detachment of the Atlantis Expedition assuming the role originally held by then Major John Sheppard before the untimely death of Colonel Sumner. He commands a SG team which has much more of a military function than Lt. Col. Sheppard's team and is often tasked with protecting scientists and diplomats. His team is also often called to back up Sheppard's team when they need more of a military force.
