Plot Overview

Mace Windu and Yoda continue to hold off the droid army, but eventually notice that the droids are not trying to capture any facilities. The two Jedi Masters conclude the operation is a distraction while Grievous goes after the Chancellor. Meanwhile, Shaak Ti sends the other two Jedi ahead to a bunker with the Chancellor while she holds off Grievous and his troops.

At the laboratory on Nelvaan, Anakin begins to defend himself from the mutated Nelvaan warriors. He uses his Force powers to drive them back, trying not to harm them. The Nelvaan warrior who was most recently experimented on watches while trapped in a tank behind Anakin. Horrified, he breaks out and runs up to the brainwashed warriors, pulling off their harnesses, motioning Anakin to do the same. Anakin cuts off all the harnesses, and the mutated warriors break free of the scientists' control. The lead warrior directs Anakin to a crystal that seems to be powering the facility.

Shaak Ti faces off against a cadre of MagnaGuards, eventually losing her lightsaber. She manages to grab one of their weapons and continues to fight them off.

The Nelvaan warriors overrun the facility while Anakin ascends to where the crystal is. It is surrounded by a forcefield that Anakin's lightsaber cannot penetrate, but he manages to plunge his artificial arm inside. He uses his Force powers to pull the crystal into his mechanical hand, then crushes it. The hand is destroyed along with the crystal.

Outside, Anakin sees the scientists ready to escape. He uses his Force powers in anger to defeat them. The Nelvaan warriors see Anakin do this, and rip off their own mechanical hands to emulate him. They return to the village, where the villagers are horrified by the new appearances of their loved ones, but they are happy to see them nonetheless. Obi-Wan asks Anakin about what he saw in the cave, but Anakin says little.

General Grievous catches up to Foul Moudama and Roron Corobb and fights them, emerging victorious. Shaak Ti is busy fighting the MagnaGuards but they suddenly withdraw, and she rushes off to try and find the Chancellor. She arrives to find the two Jedi dead and Palpatine in the clutches of Grievous. She attacks Grievous in anger, but he disarms her and ties her to the ceiling with electrified cables.

Master Windu arrives to find Grievous loading Palpatine onto a ship. He is unable to stop them from taking off, but before the ship is out of range he uses his Force powers to crush Grievous' chest. Windu rushes off to find the other Jedi, horrified by the carnage he finds.

Just as Anakin finishes repairing his arm, he and Obi-Wan receive orders from Master Windu to go after Grievous and rescue the Chancellor.

Trivia

The Show

  • Though both are considered the same level of Star Wars canon, the Clone Wars television series (this episode in particular) conflicts with the events as portrayed in the novel Labyrinth of Evil. In the novel, Stass Allie and a female Twi'lek are among the Jedi sent to rescue Palpatine. Also in the novel, Mace Windu battles General Grievous on a train.

  • Star Wars: Episode III: This last episode sets up several plot points in the film. Obi-Wan and Anakin are given the orders to rescue Chancellor Palpatine, with the actual rescue unfolding in the opening sequence of Episode III. General Grievous is shown to be less effective in battle with a severe breathing problem, the result of Mace Windu's Force attack on him in this episode.
