Behind the Scenes

Allusions and References

  • The head vampire is named Buffy Sanders, a play on the name Buffy Summers, the title character from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The show also starred James Marsters as the vampire Spike, who guest stars here as Milton and it's no doubt it's meant to be an inside joke when it's he that tells Clark that there are no such things as vampires. The allusions to Buffy the Vampire Slayer are obvious when taken into account that this episode's writer Steven S. DeKnight also worked on it and its spin-off series Angel.
  • Project 1138 is clearly taken from the name of George Lucas's early film THX 1138.

Quotes

  • Pauline Kahn: But tall tales of slaying Buffy the vampire don't make it into the pages of a real newspaper.
