The gang's spa vacation becomes another busman's holiday when they uncover a Phantosaur, a ghostly dinosaur that comes to life protecting treasures hidden within a cave. The gang's investigations uncover a host of suspects including a motorcycle gang, corporate suits and scientists.
In sub-plots, Velma's heart is captured by a paleonthologist's young assistant, and Shaggy's acute fright syndrome is treated with hypnosis prompting him to be brave when the key word "bad" is used (but it's an on-off switch--he reverts to being scared if "bad" is used again).
