- Vertigo: Emerson's dream sequence is very similar to John Ferguson's nightmarish nervous breakdown in the Alfred Hitchcock film Vertigo. The sequence came after Ferguson, played by Jimmy Stewart, witnessed his friend's wife fall to her death. The nightmare was signified by flashing colors and Ferguson falling into oblivion.
