Season Two of Pokémon premiered on February 4, 1999. The season is not based on any particular game in the Pokémon franchise, though characters from the games Pokémon Red and Blue made appearances and some Pokémon were seen for the first time. The season saw the departure of Brock for its duration and the introduction of Tracey Sketchit as a main character.
Though the title sequence still refers to the show as simply Pokémon, on-air promotions and the eventual DVD release refer to this batch of episodes as the Orange Island Adventures. Season 2 follows Ash Ketchum as he travels to the Orange Islands to run an errand for Professor Oak, in the process deciding to compete in the Orange League, where he must collect badges from various Pokémon Gyms so he can compete against the champion.
