Season Three of Pokémon premiered on October 14, 1999. This season is the first of three adapting the plot of the Nintendo Game Boy games Pokémon Gold and Silver, marking the second generation for the Pokémon franchise. One hundred new Pokémon were introduced; some of the Pokémon featured on the show include Chikorita, Totodile, and Cyndaquil. The season also saw the reintroduction of Brock after the departure of Tracey at the end of season 2.

Season 3 follows Ash Ketchum as he travels to the region of Johto to the east, and begins his quest to earn all of the badges from that region. In the USA, the season was officially given the name Pokémon: The Johto Journeys, which appears in the opening and on the DVD releases.
