Plot Overview
The Movie
This feature is made up of several episodes of a Japanese television show pieced together (Saru No Gudan). A brave group of volunteers are cryogenically frozen in order to survive an earthquake. They awaken to find a Earth ruled over by apes and a super-intelligent computer. They must find a way to survive and transport themselves back to the past.
The Host Segments
- Opening Segment: Every transmission the mad scientists send to the ship is received by Tom Servo and Crow, but Joel is mysteriously absent.
- Segment One: The bots search high and low for Joel but only find his space suit. This leads them to believe that Joel is floating naked through space.
- Segment Two: Tom Servo and Crow debate on whether or not to let Joel back inside the ship.
- Segment Three: Cambot pulls a practical joke and fools Crow into believing that Joel is back on the ship.
- Closing Segment: Joel floats outside the ship as Tom Servo and Crow discuss their new life without him.
Notes
- This is the only episode in the entire series in which a human character is not present during the theater segments as Joel was out of town.
- A scene of the characters in the movie boarding an empty spaceship was cut for time.
- Time Of The Apes was produced by Sandy Frank, who was very upset over the treatment of his films on the show. As a result, he refused to renew the rights for their broadcast and the episodes featuring his movies could not be re-aired once the rights expired.
- Time Of The Apes is one of the KTMA episodes that was re-done in a later season (3x06 - Time of the Apes)
