Plot Overview
The Movie
A giant bat creature is awakened by a volcanic explosion. Another young boy with a telepathic link with Gamera summons him to do battle with the creature. As the two monsters fight, the world's scientists look for a way to destroy Gaos.
The Host Segments
- Opening Segment - Crow is still frozen as a Christmas tree. Joel takes a call from a viewer who complains about the awful Gamera movies. Joel explains that he doesn't choose the movies and that they are sent to him by the mad scientists.
- Segment One - Tom Servo goes through puberty, which gives Josh an excuse to change Servo's voice from the high pitched version he had been using to the much deeper tone he would have for the remainder of the series.
- Segment Two - Gypsy wants a new voice as well. Joel takes a call from someone who wants Crow to be unfrozen. Gypsy begins eating the tinsel that Joel decorated the ship with.
- Segment Three - A caller invites Joel and the bots to attend his birthday party. They can't make it, but Tom Servo wishes him a happy birthday anyways.
- Closing Segment - Tom Servo hypes the new year's episode of MST3K.
Notes
- The mad scientists had been glimpsed in shots during the opening before, but this episode marks the first time their experiment is explained.
- Tom Servo is back in the theater segments for this episode. He sits in Crow's normal position.
- This is the first film in the Gamera series in which Gamera bleeds.
- Gamera vs. Gaos was produced by Sandy Frank, who was very upset over the treatment of his films on the show. As a result, he refused to renew the rights for their broadcast and the episodes featuring his movies could not be re-aired once the rights expired.
- Gamera vs. Gaos is one of the KTMA episodes that was re-done in a later season (Gamera vs. Gaos)
