- Obsessive. Compulsive. Detective.
Adrian Monk was one of San Francisco's best detectives, until the unsolved murder of his wife caused him to develop Obsesive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). This causes him to be afraid of almost everything, germs, crowds, milk, etc. and he has compulsive tendencies, like straighting pictures and touching parking meters. These troubles eventually cost him his job. He now works as a private consultant to the police department, and as such Monk was forced to hire a personal nurse, Sharona Fleming, who went from simply taking care of his needs to being the Watson to his Holmes. After she moved back to New Jersey, Monk found himself again unable to function, until he met Natalie Teeger, who enlisted him when her home got broken into twice in a week.
