Plot Overview
At the Tyrell Institute just as Professor Avery Walker is about to deactivate his android creation, the android kills him and escapes. At large in the city, R.I.N.G. commits a series of bizarre crimes such as killing a mailman, stealing a mask, breaking into a mortuary to steal makeup, and breaking into the libarary to steal a philosophy tape.
Kolchak talks to Walker's drunken widow. She doesn't care who killed her husband: he was having an affair with his assistant.
Kolchak follows an army officer from the mortuary crime scene to the Tyrell Institute, where he tries to impersonate his way in. The guard refuses to let him and and sends Kolchak away. So he goes to visit Leslie Dwyer, Walker's assistant.
Back at the INS offices, Vincenzo is threatended by the government to take Kolchak off the story, but Kolchak continues his investigation anyway.
Following the disappearance of Leslie Dwyer, he tracks her to her lakeside home, where he finds both her and the android. She explains that he is only a few days only and doesn't want to be deactivated (to die). He doesn't understand right and wrong. He just wanted to become human, hence the mask, the makeup, and the philosophy tapes.
The army arrives to claim the android; and in the confrontation that follows R.I.N.G. is shot and destroyed. To make sure that Kolchak doesn't tell his story, his memory is chemically erased.
