KRON-TV is the MyNetworkTV affiliate for the San Francisco/Oakland, California market, broadcasting on digital channel 38, displayed as virtual 4 on tuners. Their subcarrier, 38.2, carried programming from Retro Network Television.

KRON signed on in 1949 as an NBC affiliate and was subject to an ownership battle between NBC and the San Francisco Chronicle newspaper. The Chronicle won the rights to buy the station, and its call stands as a pronunciation of the first syllable. As one of NBC's top stations, KRON was prone to blacking out network programming, most notably in the daytime. Its news presence was very prolific, scheduling more dayparts to news than any other Bay Area station. Bay TV was a cable news station that KRON operated from 1994 to 2001.

In 2001, KRON reverted to independent status after they contested NBC's rate by which affiliates pay to carry network programming and the demands from NBC that station owner Young Broadcasting run it under the auspices of an owned-and-operated station. In 2006, they became a MyNetworkTV affiliate. It is speculated that NBC may return to KRON by purchasing the station. NBC currently airs on KNTV/channel 11, licensed to San Jose, and should a change take place, KNTV would acquire the Spanish network Telemundo.
