KPNX is an NBC affiliate in Phoenix, Arizona (licensed to Mesa). The station broadcasts on digital channel 18 and is owned by Tegna Media. The station also operates a full-time satellite KNAZ-TV channel 2 in Flagstaff.
KPNX first opened in 1953 as KTYL-TV as an NBC affiliate with a secondary DuMont affiliation. In 1955, the station changed its call letters to KVAR, then in 1959, changed its call letters again to KTAR-TV, then one last time it changed to the current KPNX in 1979.
KPNX started broadcasting on the ATSC 3.0 (NextGen) standard in 2021 under the lighthouse host of CW affiliate KASW/channel 61. In July 2021, they moved to the ATSC 3.0 sub tier of KFPH-CD/channel 35 (Univision) where they transmit on RF 35.8963.
