Season Thirteen of Jeopardy! (1984) premiered on September 2,1996.
This season started with a scene of the Sony Pictures Studios, with announcer Johnny Gilbert saying "From the Sony studios..." for the first few weeks of the season and later "From the Sony Pictures Studios..." before the Jeopardy title card with Johnny saying the "This is Jeopardy!" phrase. It was also the last season to use the globe intro. From this season onwards, the show no longer used the Enchanted font for the contestants names and closing credits, but moved to a new blue background with white leap on the letters for the names, as well as the closing credits, in the Compacta-D font. November 8, 1996 was the last airdate for the 1991-1996 set, this episode had no champion.
On November 11,1996 Jeopardy introduced a new set by designer Naomi Slodki. The set started off with "Celebrity Jeopardy". It's first contestants were Laura Innes, John Mahoney,and Beverly Sills. This set also used the 1992-1997 / 1996-1997 theme song edit. Also with the premiere of this set, the swooshing sound was removed from the introduction, and audience in the background could no longer be heard talking before Johnny Gilbert's intro of the show. The last champion of the season was Dan Melia, who won $12,800 in his first game. This was the last season to use the 1992-1997 theme music and grid set and the first season to use the sushi bar set.
