Charlie Kelly is friends with Dennis, Dee, and Mac, and, as of 2x03 - Dennis and Dee Go on Welfare is part owner (with all except Dee) of Paddy's Irish Pub in the south side of Philadelphia.

We know that Charlie went to Catholic high school with the rest of the gang from the episode 1x03 - Charlie Wants an Abortion. According to 2x04 - Mac Bangs Dennis' Mom, Charlie's father is a drug dealer, although his mother is very sweet. Charlie spends much of his time trying to hook up with the waitress, whom he has had a crush on since the first episode, despite the fact that she is not interested in him.

- The term "Charlie work" is used to describe any of the undesirable work in the bar, such as cleaning up bathrooms.
