Nathan Petrelli is walking down a street in New York as he goes over his previous conversations with his brother, Peter, about having "super powers". In his musings, he is almost hit by a fire truck as it careens around a corner.

At the scene of the fire, a woman's daughter is trapped on the 4th floor of a burning building. Nathan flies up to an open window, thinking that this is something that Peter would do, not him. He rescues the trapped woman, who thinks she was saved by an angel. She discovers that Nathan slipped a "Vote Petrelli" button on her shirt.
