Arc Advancement

Happenings

  • It's confirmed Will survived Hannibal's attack. Abigail did not.

Characters

  • Will has been visiting the Norman Chapel for some time in the past eight months since Hannibal's vicious attack, recalling it being a part of his memory palace. He knows the heart was left for him.
  • Chief Investigator Rinaldo Pazzi is introduced who follows Will because he can lead him to Hannibal whom he believes is Il Mostro.
  • Will tells Hannibal that he forgives him for killing Abigail.

Referbacks

  • This episode picks up from the events of "Mizumono".

Trivia

The Show

  • While this episode does continue the tradition of meal related titles, it also doubles as a reference to the Sandro Botticelli painting Primavera, which plays a significant role in the episode.

Behind the Scenes

Allusions and References

  • The introduction of Rinaldo Pazzi on the trail of Hannibal whom he believes is the Monster of Florence is from the novel Hannibal with the killer in question being based on a real case of unsolved murders. However, in both the novel and a deleted subplot from the film, Hannibal is not the killer. This should be obvious in the case of the show since the first murder was in 1968 and Hannibal would be far too young to have committed them if one conflated his and Mikkelsen ages.

Memorable Moments

  • The image of the body unfurling itself and growing the hoofs and antlers from Will's wendigo and walking toward him.

Quotes

  • Abigail: Do you believe in God?
Will: What I believe is, uh, closer to science fiction than anything in the Bible.
Abigail: We all know it, but nobody ever says that g-d won't do a g-d damn thing to answer anybody's prayers.
Will: God can't save any of us because it's inelegant. Elegance is more important than suffering. That's his design.
Abigail: You talking about God or Hannibal?
Will: Hannibal's not God. Wouldn't have any fun being God. Defying God, well, that's his idea of a good time.
