Plot Overview
Events at Chilton's formal dance convince Rory and Dean that they, as Rory might say, bery boyfriendy-girlfriendly. But something unexpected happens that sets the town buzzing and puts Lorelai in a motherly frenzy of concern.
Lorelai and Rory are having Friday night dinner with Emily. Richard is out of town. Emily asks if Rory is going to the formal dance Chilton is hosting. She read about it in the Chilton newsletter she has delivered to her house.
On the way home Lorelai confronts Rory, asking about the dance and why she isn't going. Rory confesses she is nervous and doesn't feel comfortable with the other kids from Chilton. Lorelai thinks going to the dance would be a good idea and promises to make Rory a dress.
Rory asks Dean to be her date to the dance, with Lane watching closely through the store window.
At home, dress making dummy falls on Lorelai as she is working on Rory's dress and she developes a back spasm.
Emily comes over to see Rory off to the dance, taking many photos. When she learns that Lorelai is hurt, Emily insists on staying to take care of her after Rory is gone.
At the dance, Rory verbally battles with Paris, who came with her cousin, and Tristan tries to start a fight with Dean.
Back in Stars Hollow, Dean and Rory are walking around drinking coffee. Ms. Patty's dance studio is open, so they wander in and settle on the bean bag chairs, reading a book.
The next morning they are woken by Ms. Patty and the early morning yoga class. Rory, horrified that she has stayed out all night, runs off leaving Dean standing in front of the dance studio.
Emily wakes up Lorelai, frantic that it is 5:30am and Rory isn't home yet. Ms. Patty calls, telling Lorelai where Rory was, and with whom Rory was.
Emily and Lorelai argue, Emily telling Lorelai that Rory will get pregnant and turn out just as Lorelai did. Lorelai sends Emily home and then shouts are Rory when she appears.
