Plot Overview
Chris commutes to a predominately white school to fulfill his mother's wish for a better education, and also move out of the projects into a house. His schedule for this one school day is to go to school, buy lunch with money, come home from school on time to pick up his younger siblings Drew and Tonya and ensure that his father maintains a stable meal. Unfortunately, the day does not go as planned.

Behind the Scenes
- GoogleVideo: The pilot episode of the series was made available for free viewing several days before the series premiere through Google's streaming video service.
- Ratings: Upon its first airing, this episode was watched by 7.8 million viewers and was the second highest rated show for its timeslot. It was also the highest rated comedy premiere in UPN history and the third highest rating for any program on the network, only below the premieres of Star Trek: Voyager and Enterprise.
- Budget: This episode had a budget of two million dollars.
Allusions and References
- The Shining: The patch on Julius's shirt says "Overlook Hotel," this is the same hotel which Jack Torrence was enlisted to watch over in The Shining.
- Godfather: Chris's school's name is "Corleone Junior High School," a reference to the mafia family from the Godfather saga of films that controls most of the violent and criminal activity in the city.
- Narrator: It was just like Bedstuy: take away the gangs, add the mob!
