  • Foreshadowing: At the time the episode aired, Billie Piper had confirmed that she would leave the show at the end of the season, which puts Rose's affirmation that she will never be split from the Doctor and his less optimistic response into a gloomy light.

  • Shayne Ward: The singer, whose Greatest Hits are advertised on posters in 2012, was the winner of the 2005 season of the talent search The X Factor. This would indicate that Ward will have enjoyed more enduring success than usually experienced by the winners of these type of shows.
  • Star Trek: The Doctor and Chloe exchange Vulcan salutes, first seen in the Star Trek episode Amok Time.
